Programs Offered
At McKeesport Area Technology Center (MATC), high school students can launch their careers early through a variety of new and legacy course clusters. These courses allow students to benefit from partnerships with higher learning institutions while they are still in high school. See below for summaries of each course, along with links to their articulation agreements.
Allied Health
Aspiring Educators
This program prepares students who are interested in careers in education. We emphasize leadership, communication, and classroom fundamentals, encouraging students to explore teaching and educational support roles.
Autobody (Collision Repair)
Students are provided hands-on experience repairing and refinishing vehicles. Students regularly complete work on a variety of vehicles.
Building Construction
Projects completed in this program directly benefit the district and the community. The students' work includes maintaining the Tiger Tots Playground and refurbishing classrooms used for the two new programs that opened in January, providing students with authentic, project-based learning experiences.
Child Care
This program features Tiger Tots, the MATC's preschool laboratory program where students gain hands-on experience in early childhood education. Tiger Tots operates two sessions per day, three days per week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. The morning session is from 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM and the PM session is from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM. For more information, contact Lacey Siess at LSiess@mckasd.net or call 412-664-3650.
Commercial and Graphic Arts
Students are provided hands-on experience with branding and design through real-world projects. Students learn about graphic design, animation, videography, photography and the variety of ways to bring creative design to life.
Cosmetology
This program allows students to develop professional cosmetology skills while offering services to the public by appointment. This real-world experience helps students build confidence, technical expertise, and customer service skills.
Culinary Arts
Students who take part in Culinary Arts operate Tiger Inn throughout the school year. The program plans to reopen for in-person dining in the spring, offering students valuable experience in food preparation, service, and hospitality management.
Diversified Occupations
This program provides students the opportunity to earn academic credit while working. In addition to on-the-job experience, students receive support with career readiness, employment resources, and connections to local employers.
Engineering
Protective Services
New for the 2025-2026 school year, this program introduces students to careers in law enforcement, emergency services, corrections, and other public safety fields. Students develop foundational knowledge, professional skills, and an understanding of real-world public safety operations while exploring pathways that lead to both postsecondary education and direct entry into the workforce.
