Elementary
In the McKeesport Area School District, the curriculum in grades K-5 is instrumental. Our curriculum provides the building blocks for students to become lifelong learners, whether they attend Francis McClure Elementary or Twin Rivers Elementary.
Literacy instruction develops students’ abilities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through engaging learning experiences that strengthen communication, critical thinking, and resilience. Our educators work collaboratively to support students as they grow into confident readers, writers, and communicators.
In mathematics, students develop a strong understanding of whole numbers, operations, fractions, decimals, geometry, and problem-solving. The K–5 progression provides a solid foundation that prepares students for more advanced mathematical concepts and real-world application in later grades.
Science instruction in grades K–5 encourages students to actively explore and investigate the world around them. Through hands-on learning and scientific practices, students ask questions, gather evidence, and develop explanations about natural phenomena. These experiences build curiosity, critical thinking, and an understanding of how science and engineering impact everyday life.
