Meet our Athletic Director!
Mr. Charley Kiss, Athletic and Activities Director/Business Affairs/Title IX Coordinator
Charley was no stranger to the Athletic Department during his years at MAHS. He played three sports for four years for the Tigers. He was a starting outfielder for the baseball team for four years and was WPIAL AAAA 1st team All-Conference Outfield at the end of the 1998 season. After several years on junior high teams, Charley was a rare underclassman starter as a junior point-guard under long-time Coach Dan Pacella. As a senior, Charley was a significant contributor to a team that qualified for the WPIAL Playoffs, but his individual performance was hampered by an ankle injury suffered during the football season. In football, Charley’s playing career took a similar path to basketball, where he played on the freshmen and JV teams. As a junior, he started several games and appeared in several others at quarterback. He was the full-time starting quarterback for Coach George Smith during the 1997 season. They finished with a 6-4 record and narrowly missed qualifying for the playoffs. Charley was able to receive the honor of WPIAL All-Conference 2nd team Quarterback out of a conference that included Central Catholic, Penn Hills, Gateway, Plum, Kiski, Franklin Regional and Fox Chapel.
In the fall of 1998, Charley enrolled at Saint Vincent College, in Latrobe, PA, on a partial baseball scholarship. He was a four-year starter for the Bearcats in the highly competitive NAIA Division II American Mideast Conference. He became all-conference as a sophomore in the spring of 2000. He graduated from Saint Vincent College in the spring of 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Management. He also has a Master of Science degree in Sport Management from California University of Pennsylvania.
The 2022-2023 school year will be Charley's 18th year as Athletic Director. He has recently been appointed additional titles as the district's Title IX Coordinator in charge of the district's compliance with Title IX and Board Treasurer with duties in the Business Office. He is a member of the District 7 (WPIAL) Athletic Director's Association, The Pennsylvania State Athletic Director's Association (PSADA), The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrator's Association (NIAAA) and a member of the WPIAL Football Steering Committee.
Once a Tiger...Always a Tiger!
