Request for District-Issued Chromebooks & Insurance
Access to technology is very important for our students as a large amount of learning resources and materials can be accessed digitally. Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year the McKeesport Area School District is proud to offer a one-to-one Chromebook lending program for students in grades three through twelve. The lending program is offered by request and will not require mandatory participation. At this time students in grades kindergarten, first and second will use district provided iPads at school only. Students in all other grades will be encouraged to use devices at home and school. Additionally, students in grades three through twelve may elect to bring their own device (BYOD). Devices that will be allowed under the BYOD program include student owned Chromebooks and personal computing devices.
District policy requires students who are opting into the one-to-one lending program and requesting a district issued Chromebook, must purchase the annual non-refundable insurance policy. The fee is $20.00 per student loaned for the device requested. The insurance fee helps to cover non-warrantied, unintentional and non-negligent damage that may occur. Any damage that is considered to be intentional or negligent is not covered by this insurance and associated costs are considered the responsibility of the student. Some examples of what the insurance program covers are:
Lightning and other Electrical Surges
Loss/Theft with a parent/guardian filed police report
Items not covered include, but is not excluded to:
Dishonest, fraudulent, malicious, or criminal acts
Use not accordance with District Acceptable Use policies
Any loss to software, data, documents, music, videos, or other personal information stored on the device
Disappearance of the device not reported to local law enforcement
Any damage determined to be the cause of woeful student neglect or purposeful damaging of the device
Loss/Theft without a parent/guardian filed police report
With the insurance you will be expected to pay an annual deductible that covers some of the repair cost of the device. The deductible schedule is as follows:
Accidental Damage Claim #1
Accidental Damage Claim #2 within the same academic year
Accidental Damage Claim #3 within the same academic year
Lost or Stolen Claim with parent provided Police Report
*Disclaimer: After the fourth incident the student will be responsible for the full replacement cost of the device and will forfeit their participation in the one-to-one lending program for the remainder of the academic year.
For students wishing to bring their own device, the devices will be the sole responsibility of the student and the district will not be responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged devices. Additionally, the district will not provide technical support for any non-District owned devices. McKeesport Area School District employees are not permitted to install any software on any non-District owned device.
For planning purposes, families of students in grades three through twelve are encouraged to request a district-provided Chromebook by enrolling in the One2One Risk Solutions insurance program no later than August 12, 2021. Enrolling in the insurance is done using a debit or credit card through the One2One Risk Solutions webpage https://www.one2onerisk.com/ . For families who cannot or do not wish to enroll with a personal debit or credit card, insurance vouchers can be purchased from the receptionist desk at the District Administration Building on August 9th and 11th from 8:00 A.M to 12:00 P.M. and August 10th and 12th from 12:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. If a student decides to request a district-issued Chromebook later in the school year, they may request to do so by enrolling in the insurance program and making an appointment for device pickup through their student’s Guidance Department.
Distribution of Chromebooks will occur August 16-19 2021. Express pickup days for those who have pre-enrolled in the insurance program will occur on August 16-17 2021. Pickup for all students, including those who enroll after August 12 2021 will occur on August 18-19 2021. For those who are unable to unroll on their own, staff members will be available August 18-19 2021 to assist with the insurance enrollment process. No devices for participants who enroll after August 12 2021 will be passed out on the express pickup days.
To enroll in the One2One Risk Solutions insurance program
- Log into https://www.one2onerisk.com/
- Click on “Enroll My Device”
- Find your Stat, District, School, and the 2021-2022 School Year
- Enter your Participant ID (6 digit School ID number)
- Choose your payment option, for the prepaid voucher choose “Prepaid Cash Card”
- Fill out payment information, for the prepaid voucher enter in the access number on the back of the card.
